Join me for a Friday themed around the season focussing on observation and drawing.
Held at the Canalside Heritage Centre at Beeston Rylands, Nottingham, the venue gives access to open land and a garden for a nature walk for gathering, collecting and observing nature's treasures.
In the light filled studio with views across the River Trent I will lead you through a series of drawing tasks to help you liberate your creative blocks and draw with a confident line. Focussing on shape and line you will add colour to your pages with paint and collage. I will focus on process and play, not fixed outcomes and give you permission to dance with 'what if....' to create work that is authentic and respects where you are on your artistic journey.
You will end the day with techniques to bring to your creative practice and motivation to keep a sketchbook to mark out summer's days.
The Canalside Heritage Centre has on street parking about 50 metres away. The entrance is over a pedestrian bridge across the canal. The studio is an upstairs room with lift access if required. Downstairs is a coffee shop serving a lunchtime menu, or bring your own lunch if you prefer and wrap up warm to sit on the roof terrace and admire the view! Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. The day will run from 10 - 3.45 on Friday June 6th 2025.
You are invited to bring nature treasures for the nature table and to wear suitable clothing for an outside amble to observe nature.
Art materials and paper will be provided but you may wish to bring your own sketchbook and basic drawing supplies.
*please note that you will be charged postage of £4.50 on this order. I can't work out how to stop this as there is a flat fee on all my products. I will of course refund this as soon as I get your order - I am working on sorting this glitch out but it's winning so far!!
** I got asked this question and thought I would share the answer....
Could you let me know how much previous experience you need to do the drawing workshop please?
That is a good question! Everyone is at different stages and I share ways of bringing the drawing process to life and keeping it fresh and invigorating so you can continue to develop. There's no expectation of you to be anything but who you are. What you need is a willingness to try and a willingness to get it wrong, so don't bring self-judgment to the day! It's a day of exploration with mark, discovering shape and being bold. Some people will be 'better' than you, some will be 'different'. There will be no judgment from me - just encouragement and enabling.
